field trip-maven goes to Sqirl

Last week we braved the 5 and made our way north to the acclaimed restaurant, Sqirl. We are so excited to have their products in our store and had such an amazing first meal at the space.

Nestled on the outskirts of the Silverlake neighborhood in Los Angeles, Sqirl is a casual and super charming cafe best known for their in-house jams made using locally sourced produce.

Made with kokuho rose organic brown rice, preserved meyer lemon, lacto fermented hot sauce, watermelon radish, sheep milk feta, and topped with an optional poached egg.

The tiny space serves up health conscious comfort food like the popular Sorrel Pesto Rice Bowl (shown above) that we ordered with a poached egg and immediately devoured. The other beloved item is their Brioche Ricotta Toast (pictured below), we paired ours with Blueberry Rhubarb jam and it was a dream.

famed brioche ricotta toast is made with a thick cut of burnt brioche bread, house straus milk ricotta, and your choice of house made jam.

we really liked that their menu is market-driven, meaning it utilizes seasonal foods in its offerings. the owner Jessica koslow works closely with local farmers to provide fresh, quality ingredients within her thoughtful menu. if you can't swing a trip up to LA, you can purchase a piece of Sqirl at maven. we are proud to offer several of their delicious jams and now have the award winning cookbook (as seen below) in stock too.

special thank you to jessica and her amazing staff for a lovely first impression. we now know what the hype is all about, and we will be back soon.
